These last few months at Southside Methodist Church have been marked by incredible life change and transformation. God is moving in and through our church to show God’s love in practical ways to our neighbors and communities and around the world.
Why does any of this matter? Because through it all, lives are being transformed by the good news of Jesus. God is moving through the ministries and missions of Southside to turn hearts toward Him! Growing in generosity is a lifelong journey for everyone.
We talk about generosity using the phrase “taking first and next steps in generosity.” At Southside Methodist Church we define these steps as:
First-time giver: If you’ve never given to the local church, we’d love to invite you to join the greater story God is writing and know that when you give to Southside Methodist Church, are really giving through Southside Methodist Church.
Recurring giver: Some of you have been giving to Southside Methodist Church for a while here and there, but Southside is now your church home and is a priority to you. And so, like you invest in other things that are important to you like your streaming services and more, you want to give continually to our missions and ministries.
Tither: As your faith in God continues to grow, you are realizing that God wants you to trust Him with all of your resources and move towards giving 10% of your income. This is what the Bible calls a “tithe.” The tithe is neither a starting point or a stopping point, but a strong measure of our display of trust that God owns everything and we trust Him.
Radical giver: This is someone who has been tithing, but is now moving towards giving above and beyond 10%. This person is shifting from asking, “God, how much do I give,” to asking, “God, how much do I keep?”
